Lightning Flashes Across Virginia Sky as Ida Prompts State of Emergency

Lightning flashed across the stormy night sky in Virginia on August 31-September 1 as the remnants of former Hurricane Ida brought flash flooding to the state.

The severe weather prompted Virginia Gov Ralph Northam to declare a state of emergency. The rainfall would present “significant resource and operational challenges,” Northam said.
