Liar will finally return to screens next week for a second run, and one of its stars has dropped some hints about how the murder mystery will play out.

If you remember, rapist Andrew Earlham (played by Ioan Gruffudd) was killed off at the end of the first series, though who did it remains under wraps.

Series two is lining up a number of suspects (not just Laura) – and if you had any doubts about whether he is actually dead, actress Joanne Froggatt has firmly put those to bed.

"Andrew is definitely dead," she confirmed to What's on TV.

"The series goes over the last three weeks between him disappearing and turning up dead. We see who killed him and who's the liar now."

The second series will contain flashbacks to Andrew on the run, as well as DI Karen Renton (Katherine Kelly) investigating his murder.

Hinting that Laura isn't the only one with a motive, Joanne continued: "Laura is under suspicion. She feels angry the injustice has carried on and she is now a suspect. Andrew is still haunting her.

"But several characters had a reason to want something terrible to happen to Andrew. It shows how one person's actions have a snowball effect on so many lives."

Speaking last year, Harry Williams – who writes the show with brother Jack – promised answers when the series returns.

"We're delighted that anyone frustrated by the cliffhanger will be rewarded for their patience," he said.

"Questions are answered and the title is central. It's a different lie. Who's lying about what? The audience will be figuring that out."

Liar season 2 begins on March 2 on ITV at 9pm.
