Liam Payne's Funeral Details Are Here. Will One Direction Attend?
More information has emerged following his tragic death.
Over a month after Liam Payne's death, new details are emerging about the One Direction member's funeral. According to Reuters, the service is set to take place Wednesday in his native country of England. Other British publications, including the Daily Mail, reported that it will be a private ceremony for close friends and family, and Payne's former One Direction bandmates—Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson—will all be in attendance.
Last month, the musician died at age 31 after falling from a balcony at a Buenos Aires hotel. According to The Sun, Payne's body was flown back to his home country in preparation for the funeral, per Argentinian newspaper La Nacion. He is set to be interred at St Paul's Cathedral in Wolverhampton.
The autopsy found that Payne had traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system, per Reuters. Three people have since been charged in connection to his untimely death.
After his death, the bandmates shared an emotional joint statement, in addition to individual tributes, on Instagram in honor of their late friend. “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing," they wrote. "In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly."
"The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us," the post concluded. "We will miss him terribly. We love you, Liam.”
