Liam Payne 'checked into rehab just weeks before death in heartbreaking bid to beat addiction issues'

Liam Payne had reportedly entered rehab to address his addiction problems just weeks ago.

The One Direction star checked in to The Priory in late July for alcohol and Drug addictions, the Sun reported.

However, he left 48 hours into his 28-day Addiction Therapy Programme, friends told the newspaper.

Payne, 31, died after falling from his hotel balcony in Argentina on Wednesday.

A source told the Sun: “He gave it a go at overcoming his addictions once and for all. He really wanted to get his life on track.

“All his loved ones were "There was dismay when he managed just 48 hours of treatment.

"He bravely sought help but couldn’t stay the course.”

He began taking chlordiazepoxide, a sedative used to treat symptoms of withdrawing from alcohol and drugs.

But the treatment proved too much and he checked himself out of rehab.

Another source told the Sun he was desperate to beat his demons for his family and friens.

They said: “Family and management did everything they could.

"Liam was loved, adored and incredibly talented.

"But he just couldn’t beat his demons.

"It got so bad that last year management begged him not to drive, it was dangerous.

"Loved ones hid his keys but he just bought another car.

“There is some solace in his loved ones knowing he was aware how much everyone was rooting for him.

“He confronted his issues head-on, hoping to get back on track.”

The star died after falling from the third floor balcony of his hotel room.

The room was found in a shambolic state with TV screen smashed and debris, including a white powder and foil, littering the suite.

He had been in Argentina to see his former bandmate Niall Horan perform a solo show.
