Lexington Firefighters Perform Water Rescue After Flash Flooding

Firefighters in Lexington, Kentucky, said they responded to at least six water emergencies after thunderstorms sparked flash flooding in the area on Tuesday, May 19.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood warning for Lexington and nearby areas on Tuesday following severe thunderstorms. The NWS said Lexington received between three and 3.99 inches of rainfall over a 24-hour period that ended on Tuesday morning.

This video, shared on Tuesday morning, shows a car stuck in rushing floodwater as Lexington firefighters on a raft rescue those trapped in the vehicle.

“Thankfully, no one has been seriously injured; however, with more rain forecasted this will continue to be an ongoing threat,” the Lexington Fire Department said on Facebook. Credit: Lexington Fire Department via Storyful
