Lewis Hamilton tests positive for COVID-19

Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has tested positive for coronavirus, and will miss at least one race as a result -- meaning he will not be able to match the record for most wins in a single season.

He's said to have mild symptoms and is otherwise fit and well, according to his Mercedes team, but will miss the upcoming Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain.

Hamilton - who picked up his 11th win of the season at Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix- was trying to match the 13-win record previously set by legendary drivers Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel .

The season will end with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on December 13.

It is unclear whether Hamilton will take part in that race, either.

Formula One embarked on a shortened 17-race season in July after a positive test for a McLaren employee forced the cancellation of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in March.

The sport has also put strict rules in place to try to keep the coronavirus at bay.
