The Macallan launches new The Harmony Collection, highlighting coffee alongside single malt whiskies.

After introducing the first edition of the Harmony Collection — Rich Cacao and Fine Cacao, The Macallan continues to push boundaries and conventions with a groundbreaking follow-up. The second edition of the Harmony Collection, a limited annual release series, is an exquisite journey into the realm of all things coffee. Innovation is the name of the game here as The Macallan unveils this year’s single malt whiskies, The Macallan Harmony Collection Inspired by Intense Arabica and The Macallan Harmony Collection Smooth Arabica (available only at airports). Got that cof-feeling yet?

The collection does not only celebrate the world of coffee, but pays tribute to Ethiopian Arabica coffee beans as well as anyone who enjoys both coffee and whiskies. Just like the inaugural drop that utilised discarded husks from cacao pods for packaging, the second edition also makes use of organic by-products. #LetsGetRepurposing.

In line with The Macallan’s commitment to be more sustainable and eco-friendly in its packaging, the distillery has given new life to coffee bean husks. The one-of-a-kind packaging is concocted in partnership with Italian paper mill, Michele Posocco.

Now, let’s get to know both whiskies a little more starting with The Macallan Harmony Collection Inspired by Intense Arabica. The single malt whisky (44% ABV), with a crema colour, gives off hints of tiramisu, cappuccino, sweet oak, and vanilla on the nose. Palate-wise, expect notes of espresso, dark chocolate, blackberry, Brazil nut, and vanilla before a smooth transition to a balance dark roast coffee finish. Its red packaging takes inspiration from the coffee fruit. A sublime creation in its own unique ways, Inspired by Intense Arabica is truly unparalleled.

In the collection, there’s also The Macallan Harmony Collection Smooth Arabica (40% ABV). As mentioned earlier, it’s a Global Travel Retail version and will only distributed at airports. Similar to how the coffee fruit inspired the packaging of Inspired By Intense Arabica, Smooth Arabica’s packaging takes unroasted coffee beans as its source of representation.

It comes without surprise that tremendous creativity and curiosity went into the project, for both editions of the Harmony Collection. The Scottish distillery’s values of Incomparable Craftsmanship and Creativity as well as Nurtured by Nature are highlighted very clearly here. In the pursuit of offering consumers the most desirable coffee and whisky pairing experiences, The Macallan’s Whisky Maker, Steven Bremner, set out on an important adventure to learn about all things coffee. This included hosting a masterclass at The Macallan Estate featuring five acclaimed coffee experts.

Crucial figures involved in the masterclass include coffee grower Kenean Asefa Dukamo; coffee roaster Lisa Lawson; barista Andrea Allen; latte artist Dhan Tamang; and coffee historian Professor Jonathan Morris. During the session, Bremner learned about coffee’s timeline from the beginning to now, how to master the right coffee serve, roasting techniques, and more.
