Leicester City have begun plotting an ambitious move for Leeds United star Jack Harrison, while the 26-year-old’s stance has also been revealed by a report.
Harrison spent time in the Liverpool and Manchester United academies before heading to America as a youngster. He impressed at Manchester City’s sister club New York City FC and was subsequently signed by Pep Guardiola’s team in January 2018.
The winger never actually made an appearance for City though as he instead had loan spells at Middlesbrough and then Leeds.
Harrison became an important player for Leeds in the 2018/19 campaign, making 37 Championship appearances as the Whites finished third. He featured in all 46 of their league matches the following season as Leeds finished top of the table and finally gained promotion back to the Premier League.
The former England U21 international has proven himself to be a reliable top-flight performer since then, being trusted by both Marcelo Bielsa and successor Jesse Marsch.
Harrison is not having his most efficient season in front of goal, having scored just once in 19 games across all competitions so far. Nevertheless, he has proved over the last few years that he probably has the ability to take the next step and join a team who are fighting for a higher league position than Leeds.
Newcastle have previously tried to sign him, but their approaches were knocked back by Leeds. Instead, it is now Leicester who are looking into a deal for the wide man.
The Telegraph reporters Mike McGrath and John Percy broke news of Leicester’s interest on Tuesday. And it has now been picked up by Sky Sports.
Leicester go after a new winger
It is claimed Leicester are prioritising a new winger before the January transfer window shuts. And Harrison is currently their preferred target.
Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of the player due to his work rate and the fact he can cross well with either his left or right foot.
As such, Rodgers is hopeful Leicester will be able to complete an audacious raid on Leeds for Harrison. However, it seems they will be rejected at every turn.
Leeds are determined to keep Harrison at Elland Road. And they have no plans to let him leave for a relegation rival, with Leicester currently struggling alongside Marsch’s side.
The report also gives a bit of an insight on Harrison’s plans. Despite Leicester’s interest, he is fully focused on Leeds and is happy to stay at the club.
It looks like Leicester may have to admit defeat in this pursuit. It was always going to be ambitious, given their respective league positions and Harrison’s importance to Leeds.
Instead, Sky Sports bring up the possibility of Leicester capturing Brazilian attacker Tete. He is on loan at Lyon from Shakhtar Donetsk at the moment.
Leicester officials have discussed Tete internally. And they are attracted by the fact he would cost around half of Harrison’s price tag.
While Leicester fans may be disappointed about missing out on Harrison, Tete still represents a decent signing. And at 22 years old, he has plenty of time to develop into a reliable winger.
