Leeds star makes big hint about possible next transfer after discussing ‘perfect’ Elland Road move
Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca has spoken openly about which league he could go to next after explaining how his move to West Yorkshire worked out ‘perfectly’.
Roca came through the Espanyol academy before becoming part of their senior squad in July 2016. He went on to make 121 appearances for the La Liga side, registering three goals. A transfer to Bayern Munich then beckoned for Roca.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, he cost the German Bundesliga club €15million.
The Spaniard, who won seven caps for his country’s U21s team, spent two years at Bayern. However, he struggled to get into the starting lineup on a regular basis due to the fierce competition for places.
After playing 24 times across two seasons, Roca left Germany by joining Leeds in summer 2022. The Whites paid Bayern £10m for his services.
Roca is a regular in the Leeds team, having played in 22 matches across all competitions so far. His only goal for the club came in the 5-2 defeat to Brentford in September last year.
During a recent interview, Roca spoke about how he ended up moving to Leeds and what his plans are for the future.
The 26-year-old said his Leeds switch ‘suited me perfectly’, while also making a big suggestion about going back to play in La Liga.
Leeds transfer ‘suited me perfectly’, says midfielder
“I had the option of Leeds (in the summer), which suited me perfectly, but I obviously don’t rule out going back to Spain in future,” he said (via Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo).
“I like the Spanish league, it is our country and where we felt most comfortable. But I am very much enjoying my time in England a lot.
“I think the level in the Premier League is growing and the competition is at the highest level to keep growing. As a professional right now, I am very happy.”
It will be great for Leeds fans to hear that Roca is ‘very happy’ and that his transfer to Elland Road was ‘perfect’. However, his comments about going back to Spain will create slight concern.
It seems Roca could push for a move back to his home country at some point in the future, though it is unclear how many years he will spend at Leeds first.
Due to this stance, Leeds may need to look at some midfielders – in future transfer windows – as potential Roca replacements.
For now, though, they can enjoy seeing him play for Leeds week in, week out.
Roca will be hoping to make his 23rd appearance of the season in Leeds’ next outing. They travel to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday at 14:00.
Jesse Marsch’s side could do with a victory to push themselves away from the relegation zone. While they currently sit in 15th spot, they are only one point above the bottom three.
Meanwhile, Leeds rejected the chance to sign a Manchester United player in January, according to Thursday’s Transfer Gossip.
