Lebanese activists lead beach clean-up and swim

These activists are cleaning Lebanon’s beaches

The ‘Sustainable Waste Intercity Marathon’ (SWIM) initiative

is a seven-week beach clean-up campaign

attended by dozens of locals and some members of the Lebanese army

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) CO-FOUNDER OF SWIM LEBANON, LISA SOFIAN, SAYING:"The relationship between citizens and the sea should be strong because the (sea) is their water treasure that is a gift from God. If we change our habits we can preserve this treasure, and for anyone who says that our sea is polluted, I tell them that it cannot be polluted if we know how to preserve it."

others took part in a three-kilometer swim
