At Least Three Police Officers Injured as Rioters Launch Fireworks During Clashes in Paris

At least three police officers were injured as rioters launched fireworks in the Argenteuil suburb of Paris, France, on May 18, according to news reports.

Tensions in the suburb boiled over after some residents blamed police for the death of an 18-year-old motorcyclist on May 17 after a crash.

In footage posted to YouTube on May 18, police and rioters are seen firing projectiles as officers take cover behind a parked vehicle.

According to news reports, three police officers were injured by the fireworks. The man who recorded this footage said he witnessed an officer being struck by a stone thrown from a nearby building.

An investigation into the teenage motorcyclist’s death has so far not found evidence his bike came into contact with a police car on patrol in the area at the time of the fatal crash.

The teen died from his injuries on Sunday after his motorcycle struck a utility pole near Butte des Chataigniers park on May 16, Le Parisien reported. Credit: HORS-ZONE Press via Storyful
