Lawrence Cheng to hold virtual concert for Leslie Cheung
24 Mar – Lawrence Cheng recently revealed that he has recently been granted the permission from Leslie Cheung's former manager Florence Chan and life partner Daffy Tong to hold a special virtual commemorative concert in remembrance of Leslie's 18th year of passing.
As reported on Mingpao, the Hong Kong multi-hyphenate shared the news recently, saying that they will be holding a special concert on 1 April - the day of Leslie's passing - called "Missing You Leslie Cheung" to help cheer fellow countrymen around the world and spread positive energy during this pandemic.
"I think that if Leslie was still alive, he would agree with the decision. The title of the concert also came from Daffy," he said.
The upcoming concert, which will be an hour-long performance from various artistes, will take place on the outdoor lawn on the Ocean Terminal Deck overlooking the Victoria Harbour panorama.
It was also revealed that Karen Mok was the first guest to have been invited and said yes to participating, with the singer saying that she was his biggest fan and even danced for Leslie at an RTV singing contest.
Julian Cheung will also be performing at the event after Florence expressed her hope that the actor would do so, saying that she would like for Julian to perform "Wind Continues to Blow" at the upcoming show.
More performers will be announced throughout the week.
Leslie Cheung passed away on 1 April 2003 after committing suicide by jumping off the 24th floor of the hotel Mandarin Oriental amid his battle with clinical depression. He was 46.
