Law Kar Ying underwent prostatectomy after finding cancer cells

17 Jul – Veteran actor Law Kar Ying admitted that he recently underwent a prostatectomy after discovering cancerous cells following a prostate biopsy.

As reported on Mingpao, the 72-year-old actor, who spoke about his hospitalisation at a seminar held by Hong Kong Hep B Free Foundation, shared that he was told by the doctors that four out of eight tissues that were examined several months ago contained cancerous cells.

"So I was admitted to the hospital last month for prostatectomy. It's been 20 days since I was discharged," he said.

Law said that he is now recovering, but suffers from urinary incontinence, which made it a necessity for him to wear adult diapers for three to four months.

"But I am glad to have undergone the surgery now. It would be more difficult if I were to do it when I am much older. I might not be able to withstand it," he said.

Asked what wife Liza Wang thinks about it, Law said that the actress was relieved after he had the surgery.

"She urged me to pay attention to my health. She often reminded me to go to bed early, since I used to sleep late. I also have to do physical examination every four months," he said.
