Lava Glows From La Palma Volcano

The Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma continued to erupt on Wednesday morning, October 6, more than two weeks after its initial eruption on September 19.

Footage filmed by Idafe.com shows ongoing activity as fiery lava erupted on Wednesday morning.

The source said the volcano was “very active” overnight, but “much less explosive.”

On October 5, the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute said they were analyzing aerosol samples collected from “the first day the lava reached the sea” in hopes they could give “information on the chemistry and acidity of the plume”.

More than 420 hectares and 726 buildings had been affected by the volcano’s eruption as of Tuesday, according to La Palma council. Credit: Idafe.com via Storyful
