Lava Flows From La Palma Volcano After Nearly One Month of Eruptions

The erupting volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma showed no signs of quieting on October 18, nearly a month after it reawakened on September 19.

This footage, released by the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute (INVOLCAN), shows eruptions at the Cumbre Vieja volcano on Monday evening as bright lava cascaded downward.

According to the European Union’s Copernicus satellite program, at least 1,835 structures had been destroyed as of Sunday after lava flows covered 789.6 hectares (about 3 square miles). Credit: INVOLCAN via Storyful
