‘The Last of Us Part II’ Dominates BAFTA Games Awards Nominations – Global Bulletin

In today’s Global Bulletin, BAFTA announces Games Awards nominations, producer Alejandro Durán joins production outfit The Immigrant and Champlain Media hires industry veteran Linda Stregger.

Naughty Dog and Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe‘s “The Last of Us Part II” topped the nominations at the British Academy Games Awards with 13 nods. This is the highest number of nominations for a game in the history of the BAFTA Games Awards, beating last year’s record of 11 by “Control” and “Death Stranding.”

Sucker Punch Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe’s “Ghost of Tsushima” scored 10 nominations and Supergiant Games‘ “Hades” eight.

The awards, which will honor 17 craft areas, will take place on March 25 as a 90-minute online live stream and will be hosted by presenter and journalist Elle Osili-Wood. This year’s show format will focus on the audience at home, highlighting the role that games play in keeping lives connected, entertained and inspired over the past year.

EXCLUSIVE Mexican producer Alejandro Durán has joined Los Angeles-based The Immigrant, the production company founded in 2019 by “El Chapo” executive producer Camila Jiménez-Villa and co-creator Silvana Aguirre. Durán will serve as director of production in Mexico, overseeing the company’s physical production in the territory.

Durán most recently served as managing director and production director at Agencia Bengala, where he produced films including “The Comedian,” “Death to the Summer” and Netflix original “Road to Roma,” where Alfonso Cuarón reflects on the creative decisions behind the Oscar-winning “Roma.”

The Immigrant recently unveiled its first talent relations, including a collaboration with Jayro Bustamante (“La Llorona”).

Meanwhile, Canada’s Champlain Media, a group of companies owned by Tom Berry and Reel One Entertainment, has appointed award-winning entertainment executive and producer Linda Stregger as chief operating officer, reporting into Berry.

Stregger will oversee Champlain Media’s development, production and financial activities.

A TV industry veteran, Stregger is a multiple Canadian Screen Award nominee, and winner of a Gemini for best documentary series for “Tosca: Flexing at 49.” Stregger was most recently VP of the entertainment division of multi-billion dollar toy group Spin Master, and previously operated independent production company Up Front Entertainment.

She is also currently chair for Women in Film & Television Toronto.
