Las Vegas Cybertruck driver identified as Army soldier
The man who died in a Cybertruck explosion Wednesday outside the Las Vegas Trump International Hotel has been identified as Matthew Alan Livelsberger, a law enforcement source told NewsNation.
Seven people were injured in the explosion, which came hours after a man drove a truck into a crowd in New Orleans in the early hours of New Year’s Day, killing 15 people. Livelsberger drove the truck that exploded in Las Vegas.
Authorities have been investigating any possible links between the two incidents but have yet to determine a connection indicating they were coordinated.
“Master Sgt. Matthew Alan Livelsberger enlisted as an 18X and served in the active duty Army from January 2006 to March 2011,” an Army spokesperson told The Hill.
“Livelsberger then joined the National Guard from March 2011 to July 2012, followed by the Army Reserve from July 2012 to December 2012. He entered the active duty Army in December 2012 and was a U.S. Army Special Operations Soldier.”
The Army Special Operations Command is acting in full cooperation with federal and state law enforcement agencies, but it will not comment on ongoing investigations, the spokesperson said.
The person involved in the truck attack in New Orleans, who was killed by police, has been identified as a former U.S. soldier named Shamsud-Din Jabbar.
Both men are suspected of renting the vehicles from an app called Turo.
