STORY: 'The Rock' has been sold for $21.8 million

CHRISTIE'S AUCTIONEER IN CHARGE OF SELLING 'THE ROCK' SAYING (English): "Ladies and Gentlemen, The Rock, the largest ever white diamond ever to be offered for sale at auction at 228 carats. 14 million (Swiss francs)."

The 228.31-carat stone is roughly the size of a golf ball

Christie's also sold this yellow stone, dubbed the 'The Red Cross Diamond'

for $14.3 million

Part of the proceeds from the sale will go to the International Red Cross
