'Large-Scale' Power Outages Leave Parts of Toronto in Darkness

Multiple power outages left areas of Toronto, Canada, in darkness on Friday, January 6, according to energy provider Toronto Hydro.

This footage, filmed by Twitter user @nandapanda shows dozens of buildings in midtown Toronto completely dark in the midst of the electrical outage.

According to local reports about 40,000 customers were affected at the peak of the outages.

Hydro One said the outage was caused by animal contact at its Ellesmere transmission station. Toronto Hydro said all customers had their lights back on by 6:50 p.m local time. Credit: @nandapanda via Storyful
