Large Fire Rocks Industrial Plant East of Houston

An explosion and large fire injured at least two people at a Pemex-Shell industrial facility east of Houston in Deer Park, Texas, on Friday, May 5, according to local news outlet KHOU 11.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said he’d received “preliminary reports of some type of explosion” at the plant, and said the sheriff’s office and the Harris County Fire Marshal were responding.

According to ABC13, a fire official said the blaze was located in the Shell portion of the plant.

The Deer Park Independent School District (ISD) said authorities had not issued a shelter-in-place order “because the wind is blowing away from our schools.” Credit: Jason Hager via Storyful
