Large Fire Prompts Evacuations in Passaic, New Jersey
A large fire burning in an industrial area of Passaic, New Jersey, sent huge flames and smoke plumes skyward on the evening of Friday, January 14.
Mayor Hector Lora said the blaze was concentrated in property belonging to Majestic Industries. Lora said firefighters were working to stop it from spreading to the main portion of an adjacent Qualco chemical plant, but “chlorine pellets” had already been impacted by the fire.
Residents in the immediate vicinity of the fire were evacuated, said Lora, while others were urged to stay indoors and keep their windows closed, as firefighters battled the blaze.
