Lacking motivation, Ian Froude resigns from St. John's council
St. John's city councillor Ian Froude is stepping down.
The Ward 4 representative made the announcement in an e-mailed statement Tuesday morning, saying his last day at city hall is Friday.
Froude was first elected in 2017, and re-elected by acclamation in 2021.
In his statement, Froude said he is "no longer motivated to do this role in the way it should be done."
"It's time for someone else to take on the effort to represent the people of Ward 4 and help guide this city forward."
Froude said he, instead, wants to focus his energy on his family and small business.
"I am choosing to leave so that I have more emotional, mental and physical energy to spend with my family; and to build my business," he said.
Froude noted important city successes in his resignation — pointing to historically high Metrobus ridership, hosting the upcoming Canada Games and "significant economic" opportunities on the horizon.
"There is much to be done, and I encourage someone with the energy, motivation, and importantly a good heart to run to represent the people of Ward 4."
