La. Woman Who Referred to Boy, 5, as 'Demon' in Online Post Before He Was Found Dead in Suitcase Pleads Guilty

Dawn ColemanA woman pleaded guilty in Indiana to her role in the death of a 5-year-old who was found dead in a suitcase, according to several reports. The boy’s mother, who is wanted in connection with his death, is still on the run.
WTHR, WLKY and the Courier Journal report that Dawn Coleman, 40, of Shreveport, La., pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, citing the plea agreement.
5-year-old Cairo Jordan, of Atlanta, was found dead in a suitcase in the woods of rural Indiana near Louisville, Ky., in April 2022, Indiana State Police previously said in an October statement.
The Courier Journal, citing police, reports fingerprints for Coleman and the child's mother, Dejaune Ludie Anderson, 37, were allegedly found on items in the suitcase, and that phones owned by both women were near the site where the boy's body was found.
The outlet, citing Coleman's arrest affidavit, reports both women allegedly published several social media posts referring to the child as a "demon" prior to his death.
In a statement in May 2022, police said Cairo died as a result of an electrolyte imbalance likely caused by viral gastroenteritis, per a toxicology and autopsy report. According to the report, the child's blood toxicology was negative and there was no physical trauma to the body, police said in the release.
Cairo's body was found in a blue hard-case Las Vegas-themed suitcase.

WTHR reported that as part of the plea agreement, Coleman will serve 25 years in prison with five years probation and will have to testify against Anderson in any case related to Cairo’s death.
Police have been unable to locate Anderson, but Coleman was arrested in San Francisco in October 2022.
According to court documents cited by WTHR, Coleman allegedly told police that when she arrived home at the trio’s Louisville apartment, Anderson was on top of Cairo, who was lying face down on the bed. Coleman allegedly said that “it was already done.”

Coleman then allegedly said she helped Anderson put the body in the suitcase, which they drove into Indiana and dumped it in the woods, the documents reportedly said.
