Adam Driver most likely won't return as Kylo Ren since the spinoff project will be a prequel.
20 Aug – The latest update from the "Star Wars" rumour mill is there's a Kylo Ren spinoff in the works.
As per ComicBook.com, Kessel Run Transmissions reported that the project could be either a movie or a series, though there's no mention if it's live-action or animated.
The likelihood of Adam Driver reprising his starring role as Kylo Ren is low, however, as the spinoff is said to be a prequel.
Reportedly, it will focus on Ben Solo's story before he was Kylo Ren and most likely will be set before "The Force Awakens". A younger actor would probably be cast to take on the role if the prequel is decided as a live-action project.
There are speculations that it might be animated and could be linked to Marvel Comics' miniseries, "The Rise of Kylo Ren", which gives more details about how Ben Solo ended up joining the dark side.
Whatever the project ends up being, it will have to be something redeeming for the character as many fans were dissatisfied with the way the recent Skywalker trilogy wrapped up, so much so that there's even rumours of Disney and Lucasfilm axing the trilogy and pretending it never existed.
In the meantime, "Star Wars" fans have the second season of "The Mandalorian" to look forward to this fall and "The High Republic" books early next year.
