Kylian Mbappe to Man Utd clears huge hurdle, with Liverpool even happier after incredible double transfer development
A remarkable update will be greeted with smiles all round at Old Trafford and Anfield after the chances of Man Utd and Liverpool pulling off blockbuster coups this summer both soared.
It’s shaping up to be one of the most intriguing transfer windows ever this summer. Liverpool are expected to embark on a full-scale midfield rebuild, though additions could come outside of the engine room too.
Indeed, a replacement for Roberto Firmino could be pursued, while a reported nine-man clear-out will leave Jurgen Klopp scrambling for a brand new centre-half.
At Man Utd, a high class centre-forward is the order of the day, but again, that won’t be the only position addressed.
Four regular United starters are facing uncertain futures and if just one of the quartet moves on, Ten Hag will require a direct replacement.
Among the four in question is Marcus Rashford. PSG showed interest in England’s form player last year and per the Athletic, their interest isn’t going anywhere.
But even if Rashford does put the speculation to bed by signing a new contract (his current deal expires in 2024), an explosive new striker is wanted and few would get the pulse racing quite like Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe to Man Utd gathering pace
The Red Devils have been linked with moving for the French ace in the event the Glazers are successfully bought out.
A takeover either by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe or Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim would usher in a new era and both will want to kick the new regime off in style.
Mbappe signed a three-year deal with PSG back in May of 2022, though the third year is actually a player option. As such, Mbappe will technically be entering the final 12 months of his deal over the summer.
As recently as October transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported Mbappe wanted out of PSG “as soon as possible”. Mbappe himself has fuelled speculation a move to Manchester could be in his future.
The biggest barrier to a Man Utd move – aside from the colossal cost – is believed to be Real Madrid. Indeed, Los Blancos have courted Mbappe for many a year and are already pondering long-term successors to Karim Benzema.
However, reports out of Spain suggested Real are eyeing up £44m-rated Danish sensation Rasmus Hojlund instead. The Atalanta hitman recently scored five goals in two Euro 2024 qualifiers for Denmark.
Now, a report from Spanish outlet Marca has doubled down on the notion Real are not in the running for Mbappe.
They claim Real ‘will face next season without major reinforcements’ in the market. In other words, they’ll not be splashing the cash to any great effect this summer.
The Mirror piggyback on that report and deduce a move for Mbappe is off the table. The door is thus ajar for Man Utd to strike, though the update will be greeted just as warmly over at Anfield.

Real inaction a godsend for Liverpool
Indeed, Real are understood to be one of the three primary suitors for Borussia Dortmund and England ace, Jude Bellingham.
The others are Liverpool and Man City, with the Reds pinning their hopes on Bellingham being the star signing that helps transform their midfield.
Mbappe could cost upwards of £200m, while Bellingham won’t move for under £100m. If Marca are correct and Real are in no mood for blockbuster signings this summer, the race for Bellingham will be down from three to two.
At 19, Bellingham is already one of world football’s finest central midfielders. While he’s adored at the Bernabeu, the Mirror add the recent additions of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga – combined with Federico Valverde being on the books – will see Real pull out of the Bellingham race.
While Liverpool won’t wish to entertain the thought of Mbappe potentially moving to Old Trafford, the thought of Bellingham lining up at Anfield is one that’ll warm their hearts.
