KUCHING, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- M3 League runners-up, Kuching FA have clinched the slot to the Premier League next season after defeating Sarawak 3-1 in a play-off at Sarawak Stadium in Petra Jaya tonight.
The match between two team from the state attracted more than 5,000 fans and both sides quickly went into action to hunt for their first goal.
Kuching FA took the lead when a header by Sahran Abdul Samad beat Sarawak goalkeeper, Andy Nicolas Nipen in the eighth minute.
In the second half, Sarawak managed to level 1-1 via their Brazilian import striker Hudson Dias in the 52nd minute while in the 77th minute, Mohammad Zainudin Bohri found the net to give Kuching FA, a 2-1 lead.
Former national player, Joseph Kalang Tie finally sealed the match for Kuching FA when he slammed in the ball for his team’s third goal in the 85th minute.
Sarawak were forced into the play-off after completing the Premier League season in the 11th spot while Kuching FA also failed to earn automatic qualification to the 2020 Premier League after finishing as runners-up in the M3 League behind Kelantan United.
