SERENDAH, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) will be adding two new Electric Train Service (ETS) units to its fleet to meet the higher demand during the upcoming festive season, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
He said the services would be available for the KL Sentral-Butterworth, Padang Besar line.
"We have received the approval for the two units of new trains, and the trains will be put to service starting Jan 20-24 for the KL Sentral-Butterworth, Padang Besar route and from Jan 27-31 for the Butterworth, Padang Besar-KL Sentral route,” said Loke.
He said this to reporters during his visit to the Dhaya Maju Infrastructure (Asia) Sdn Bhd’s new Serendah Rail Yard here today.
The two new units would mean an additional 12,480 standard seats and 1,440 business class seats, said Loke, adding that tickets for the routes would be available from tomorrow.
Meanwhile, he said effective from March 1, KTMB would be implementing "flexi-fare", whereby fares were determined based on the passengers’ travel options, providing them with the opportunity to make travel plans and choices according to their needs.
Flexi-fare tickets will be available beginning Jan 15, for travels between March 1 and 31.
