KOTA KINABALU, Dec 27 (Bernama) -- The Kota Kinabalu folks have been urged to usher in the New Year in moderation in order to prevent disruption to public order and security especially in public areas such as Tanjung Lipat and the city centre.

Kota Kinabalu district police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said members of the public should always be vigilant and cautious to avoid any unwanted incidents.

“I advise local community not to be excessive in their celebration that can cause havoc and disturbances to others.

“Police are ready to monitor all events held during the New Year’s Eve celebration. The task force is also adequate and hopefully everything will be under control,” he said at a press conference here today.

In another development, Habibi said the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters (IPD) would organise the KK Cops Night Run as part of its police-and-community programme on Jan 4, at 7.30 pm, at the Likas Stadium.

Those interested can participate in two categories, namely, Competitive Run (10km) and Fun Run (divided into two - 7km and 5km).

“About 5,000 people are expected to participate in the run and thus far nearly 4,000 have registered,” he said, adding that there will also be a concert featuring performances of several local artists to be held simultaneously with the run.
