VIDEO SHOWS: LIVERPOOL MANAGER, JUERGEN KLOPP, RED BULL SALZBURG GOALKEEPER ALEX WALKE AND RED BULL SALZBURG COACH JESSE MARSCH SPEAKING AFTER PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
SHOWS: SALZBURG, AUSTRIA (AUGUST 25, 2020) (RED BULL HANDOUT - NEWS USE ONLY)
1. (SOUNDBITE) (German) LIVERPOOL MANAGER, JUERGEN KLOPP, SAYING:
"In terms of the position, very good, but otherwise I wasn't so pleased obviously. We didn't have a good rhythm, we approached the match wrong. I should have known, today is day 11 in the training camp. We didn't train this morning, yesterday we trained twice - we have been working very intensively, we have to, it's the only time when we can really train properly. So I know that we wouldn't be fresh today. The pitch was a bit dry and we really played into Salzburg's hands. Even I could have won the balls they won! We just didn't make any headway."
2. WHITE FLASH
3. (SOUNDBITE) (German) LIVERPOOL MANAGER, JUERGEN KLOPP, SAYING:
"At the end of the day we deserved a draw. It's not as if Salzburg played fantastically, we gave the goals away. And otherwise they got more out of the way the game developed. We had to fight harder. But I'm very happy that we had a difficult match today. I would rather have had different difficulties, but I'll take these. It's better than us winning 8-0 against whoever today and then noticing on Saturday against Arsenal that football isn't that easy afterall! So we noticed now and now we have four days to regenerate and we will do this and this was also planned."
4. WHITE FLASH
5. (SOUNDBITE) (German) RED BULL SALZBURG GOALKEEPER, ALEX WALKE, SAYING:
"I think that the first half went exactly as planned and how we wanted it to. The lads did a fantastic job and let nothing or almost nothing through their defence and they got two wonderful goals thanks to Patson (Daka). Maybe we could have had even more chances if we had played more cleanly but it was OK. And in the second half there were a lot of changes to both sides and Liverpool got two goals which were through a bit of luck. If we had played a bit more cleanly until the end we could have got a bit more. But it is ok!"
6. RED BULL SALZBURG NEWS CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS
7. (SOUNDBITE) (German) RED BULL SALZBURG COACH, JESSE MARSCH, SAYING:
"Playing against an opponent like Liverpool is always a good experience for us. We have played Liverpool twice already so it is not completely new. We understand the quality we need against an opponent like that. For me, I think we were very good in the first 60 minutes especially in defence, which was important and of course it is important against an opponent like that. After the Ajax game we realised we hadn't had enough intense tactical play training and that was a goal for us today and we delivered it. So this is a good feeling and was an improvement but we have of course got more work to do."
8. END OF NEWS CONFERENCE
STORY: Juergen Klopp's Liverpool finished their game against Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday (August 25) with a surprising 2-2 draw with the German saying the team had 'approached the game wrong' and never found their 'rhythm.'
But Klopp said he was 'happy' with the way the game went as it was somewhat of a conditioning game to get the players ready for their harder match against Arsenal in Saturday's Community Shield - the traditional curtain raiser for the English league.
Salzburg set the tone in the first half with two goals from Patson Daka but were on the backfoot for the last half hour as Rhian Brewster scored twice for the English champions.
