Jurgen Klopp has roused Liverpool owners FSG into life regarding a Jude Bellingham transfer that’ll break records, though a report has revealed one sizeable obstacle that must be addressed.
The future of Jude Bellingham is shaping up to be the story of the summer in 2023. Aged just 19, Bellingham is already one of world football’s premier midfielders.
He’s added goals to his game this term with nine notched in 19 matches across all competitions. His tally in the comparatively tougher Champions League stands at four goals in five.
His leadership qualities have also been displayed upon being handed the captain’s armband against Cologne in the Bundesliga and Sevilla in the UCL.
Furthermore, his level-headed nature has been on show each and every time he’s been asked about his future.
Bellingham has repeatedly stressed his sole focus is on Borussia Dortmund at present despite mounting speculation over his future.
Indeed, Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea Liverpool and Real Madrid are all keen admirers of the Englishman and all want a blockbuster deal in 2023.
Of all interested parties, Liverpool’s need is arguably the greatest.
Liverpool midfield verging on the shambolic
.Jamie Carragher is aghast at Fabinho’s drop-off, while one pundit reckons Fabio Carvalho is in desperate need of a loan spell away.
Thiago Alcantara continues to struggle with injury. Furthermore, Paul Scholes has suggested something is not quite right between Klopp and Jordan Henderson.
Elsewhere, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner are out of contract next summer. Arthur Melo will not see his ill-fated loan move turned permanent.
As such, hopes are high among the Liverpool fanbase of a bumper spend in the market next summer.
According to German publication Bild, that’s exactly what FSG are planning. What’s more, both the owners and Jurgen Klopp are aligned in believing Bellingham is who they should target.
Klopp gets FSG to act
Via the Daily Mail, it’s stated Klopp has ‘made it clear’ to FSG he wants the Dortmund superstar. The Reds are described as now being ‘hellbent’ on making a deal happen, and FSG have taken the first towards forging a deal.
The American owners are understood to have set aside £86m to get the deal done. If Liverpool were able to complete a deal in that range, a new club-record would be set.
Liverpool will go ‘all in’ to sign Bellingham, though they may need to dig deeper in their pockets.
A lofty valuation of £129m is cited as being required to seal a deal. Given the riches of Liverpool’s competitors in the transfer tussle, Dortmund are likely to get something close to their top end valuation.
Any move north of £100m would also set the Premier League transfer record. That distinction is currently held by Man City who paid Aston Villa £100m to sign Jack Grealish.
CBS Sports previously reported that of all the English suitors, it is Liverpool who have put in the most work behind the scenes.
Furthermore, Bellingham’s decision on who to join if he does leave Dortmund won’t come solely down to money. While it will still be a factor, the teenager wants the right project from what promises to be a career-defining move.
