Jurgen Klopp is behind Liverpool preparing to reject any and all offers for a current star who is a transfer target for two sides this month, TEAMtalk understands.

The headline attraction in Liverpool’s summer spend last window was Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan can only be described as hit and miss thus far, though hopes are high he’ll more than justify his £85m (including future add-ons) price tag once settled.

Elsewhere, the Reds recruited with one eye on the future when landing Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho.

Carvalho has racked up 18 appearances across all competitions and is already a capable option in the attacking areas for Klopp. However, right-back Ramsay has been required to show patience.

The 19-year-old has endured a difficult first season at Liverpool after his £4.2m arrival from Aberdeen.

That fee represented Aberdeen’s record sale, though Ramsay is yet to make an impact at Anfield amid various niggling injuries scuppering his progress.

The talented teenager has made just two first-team appearances for Klopp’s side. He made a brief cameo against Napoli in the Champions League before making his full debut in the Carabao Cup victory over Derby County.

Ramsay is yet to make his Premier League debut for the Reds and has only been named to the substitutes bench once (versus Tottenham on November 6).

Amid a slower than expected transition into first-team contention, a number of clubs including Watford and Swansea City have been credited with an interest in a January loan deal.

Klopp thunders in to settle Ramsay transfer talk

However, TEAMtalk has learnt that Liverpool boss Klopp has ruled out a loan move for the right-back and wants to keep him at Anfield.

Klopp wants to keep Ramsay in his first-team plans for the second half of the season and feels that avenue is best for the player’s long-term development.

Ramsay’s eventual progress could ultimately prove key to bringing the best out of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The right-back’s defensive acumen has come under even greater scrutiny this season. What’s more, his assists total (two in 26 in all competitions) is way down on what would normally be expected.

Alexander-Arnold has regularly been substituted early in games this season and was overlooked for a starting role against Chelsea on Sunday. A minor muscle injury came into Klopp’s thinking, though Alexander-Arnold did have a full day of training in the build-up to the Blues clash.

Klopp’s issue at right-back stems from the two players he chooses to deputise for Alexander-Arnold being completely different in their style of play.

James Milner and Joe Gomez are both defensive-minded, meaning Liverpool lose a huge part of everything they do well going forward when Alexander-Arnold is absent.

Ramsay’s game more closely resembles that of Alexander-Arnold’s in an attacking sense. As such, Klopp will be hopeful Ramsay can develop quickly and give him a viable option in the event Alexander-Arnold is off form.

Klopp has that luxury at left-back, for example, with Kostas Tsimikas waiting in the wings and putting pressure on Andy Robertson to maintain high levels.

Alexander-Arnold doesn’t feel that same pressure on his side, though that is a situation that could change if Ramsay can become what Liverpool project him to be.

In any case, we can confirm Klopp wants to keep the Scot around for the second half of the campaign and as such, any and all loan enquiries are set to be rebuffed.
