Klopp favourite ‘will ask to join Liverpool’ on one condition as manager is given transfer ultimatum
Ryan Gravenberch is ‘pushing’ Thomas Tuchel to convince him to stay at Bayern Munich after Jurgen Klopp made it clear he wants to bring him to Liverpool, according to Christian Falk.
Gravenberch made the move from Ajax to Bayern last summer but has struggled for consistent playing time.
The recent sacking of Julian Nagelsmann probably gave the Dutch international some hope he will be given some more minutes.
However, Tuchel is yet to hand Gravenberch a start and did not give him a single minute across both legs of Bayern’s Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City.
His difficult season has caught the attention of several European clubs.
Arsenal and Liverpool are both believed to be very interested ahead of the summer transfer window, while Erik ten Hag considers reuniting with the 20-year-old at Manchester United.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that the Reds are planning to meet with Gravenberch’s representatives.
Romano confirmed ‘there is a lot of interest’ in the young midfielder after he publicly revealed his desire to play more.
Should Gravenberch become available for a decent price, the aforementioned Premier League sides would be silly not to pursue him.
And German football expert Christian Falk has provided another update on the former Ajax teenager’s situation at the Allianz Arena.
Writing in his CaughtOffisde column, Falk stated that Gravenberch ‘keeps pushing’ for a solution as he ‘wants more playing time or to change clubs’.
Liverpool have ‘made it clear to him that Jurgen Klopp wants him’ and the 20-year-old ‘will ask Bayern to leave for the Reds if Tuchel cannot convince him to stay’.
The Reds are expected to be very busy this summer but are no longer pursuing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.
They remain linked with a host of midfield players, however. Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo are reportedly on Klopp’s shortlist.
It looks like the Liverpool hierarchy are willing to spend a lot of money this summer, but were clearly reluctant to blow the majority of their budget on a single player.
The Reds host Tottenham on Sunday as both teams try to give themselves a chance of finishing inside the top four.
On the topic of midfielders, Klopp has said he is “really happy” to have Curtis Jones back in time for the huge clash at Anfield.
While Jones may not be a player who excites the fans like a high-profile new arrival would, Klopp believes there is still a place for him.
“That he has now five games in a row is absolutely great,” he said.
“It didn’t look for a long time during the season that these kind of things would be possible because he had a freakish injury.
“We had to be super careful with him. Even when he was back in training, he wasn’t allowed to train a normal training week and that time when he came back in the team, we were still involved in European football so it meant we don’t train properly and that makes it really difficult for players who come back to get up to speed.
“Now you can see with Curtis, always the boys from the academy, people fancy big transfers.
“So if an academy boy plays good football, it is ‘OK, but I would prefer bringing him in, bringing him in and bringing him in’.
“So I’m really happy for Curtis that he could show up now again. He really deserves it.”
