KL Structure Plan 2040: DBKL must maintain forest reserves, open spaces; affordable housing must be expanded, says PM Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said that he had chaired a briefing on an engagement session regarding the draft of the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 (PSKL 2040) yesterday.
The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) must focus on maintaining forest reserves and open spaces to ensure the goal of making the city one that is green, healthy and vibrant is achieved, he said in a statement.
He also expressed agreement with the suggestion that affordable housing is expanded to accommodate the demand by the residents of the city.
“The government is highly committed to ensuring that the preparation of PSKL 2040 is comprehensive and inclusive for the people in line with the vision of Kuala Lumpur, Bandar Untuk Semua (a city for all),” he said.
The engagement session, which had been extended from May 18 to May 26, had seen DBKL receiving 639 views from the 425 participants, he added.
“In principle, I am satisfied with the report that was presented on the engagement session,” he said.
In April, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh was reported by national news agency Bernama as saying that DBKL will hold six engagement sessions with the public and stakeholders on amendments to the KLSP2040 draft.
Before that, Anwar called for a delay tp the gazettement of the KLSP2040 draft, saying that it needed to be reviewed by lawmakers and experts in the field.
Prior to that, two groups submitted a memorandum to the prime minister urging him not to prematurely gazette the KLSP 2040.
Save Kuala Lumpur (SKL) and Kuala Lumpur Residents Associations Plus (KLRA+) requested Anwar postpone the approval of the latest KLSP 2040 draft so that it can be published for public scrutiny.
