KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — An upcoming collaborative play will challenge what we believe on the issue of climate change.

Rivers In The Sky will give audiences a journey through the five elements using performers, shadow play, projections and live music.

It is directed by renowned theatre heavyweights Sabera Shaik of Masakini Theatre Company and Ana Woolf of Centro de Antropología Teatral en Argentina.

It tells the tale of the five elements — air, water, fire, wood and earth — and how man has slowly hurt Mother Earth, and how she can be saved.

Its title comes from the weather phenomenon of narrow regions in the sky that transport water vapour from tropical climates.

The play features a local ensemble starring Amalina Arham, Leanne Lim, Raja Emy Shahril, Sabera Shaik, Chloe Tan and Tristen ZiJuin. Musicians will perform a live score fusing Iban elements that will create a memorable atmosphere.

“The production is about Mother Earth and how our lives parallel hers yet one can live without the other. That is not a difficult guess to make. Or is it?” Sabera said in a statement.

“I encourage everyone, all members of rakyat Malaysia to come and watch the play not just for its entertainment value but the takeaway message that comes with it.

Woolf is an actress and director who has worked extensively with well-known Italian theatre director Eugenio Barba.

She brings over 20 years of experience and incorporates a blend of Western and Eastern techniques which she shares in her international workshops.

The co-director will be in Kuala Lumpur to hold workshops to demonstrate the ‘Suzuki technique’ and perform her work to local practitioners.

The show will be held at Pentas 2 in klpac on September 1 and 2 at 8.30pm and September 3 at 3pm.

Ticket prices range from RM48 to RM98 and are available here.
