"KL Kopites president ‘cautiously optimistic’ about Liverpool’s match against Manchester United"

“Not every team that scores three goals will go home with three points.”

That was the cheeky dig KL Kopites president Sashidaran Nair fired at Liverpool’s perennial rival and next English Premier League (EPL) opponent, Manchester United.

Sashidaran is in England to catch a couple of matches, starting with Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Sheffield United early Friday morning (Malaysian time).

Remarkably, it was Sashidaran’s 48th match at Liverpool’s home ground – Anfield – and he remained unbeaten in that time.

On Sunday, he and 37 other football fans from Malaysia and Singapore (main image), will make the trip to Old Trafford as Liverpool takes on Manchester United, who suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Chelsea moments after Liverpool returned to the top of the table.

Going into the 31st match of the season, Liverpool leads the table with 70 points, followed by Arsenal (68), Manchester City (67), Aston Villa (59), Tottenham (57), and United (48).

Villa has played 31 times, one more than the other teams in the top six of the table.

Liverpool and United played out a scoreless stalemate at Anfield in December – the only time the league leader failed to score in the EPL this season.

United, however, got the better of Merseyside club three weeks ago, winning an FA Cup quarterfinal tie 4-3 after extra time.

As such, Sashidaran is not taking anything for granted, as he knows matches between the two clubs hardly follow the form book.

For the record, Liverpool has collected 13 out of 15 points from its last five matches, while United only earned four points after suffering three defeats in five.

“Although United lost to Chelsea, I know it will be a tough game,” said Sashidaran, who witnessed Liverpool’s record-breaking 7-0 demolition of United on March 2, 2023.

“Having said that, I am confident we can get three points to stay ahead of our rivals in the league.”

Sashidaran’s childhood friend Rodney Clement, a lifelong United fan, will be by his side at Old Trafford.

“The majority of the fans I am with are Liverpool supporters, but Rodney is Manchester United through and through,” said Sashidaran.

“We have been friends for over 40 years, although we support different clubs.

“That is the beauty of football.”

Elsewhere, City continues its pursuit of Liverpool and Arsenal when it faces Crystal Palace on April 6 (7.30pm), while the Gunners take on Brighton five hours later.

At the other end of the table, Sheffield remains bottom with 15 points. Luton (22), Burnley (19), Nottingham Forest (25) and Everton (26) are in a relegation battle.

The bottom three clubs will be relegated.
