KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 (Bernama) – Playing their first home ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) match for the 2019-2020 season, Kuala Lumpur Dragons scored a dramatic come-from-behind 80-79 win against Formosa Dreamers here today.
The Taiwanese shocked the home team by surging to an 8-0 lead just minutes into the game before ending the first quarter 27-16 at the MABA Stadium. The Dragons tried to catch up but the agile Dreamers extended their lead to 50-33 at the end of the first half.
After the break, the determined Dragons put up an improved and energetic game to reduce the deficit to 60-62 by the end of the third quarter. In a nail-biting final quarter, the Dragons finally took the lead at 64-62 with seven minutes left.
The last few minutes was intense as both teams tried to score, but it was American import Amir Bell who netted the final one just two seconds before the stoppage, for the Dragons to secure their fourth win in six matches so far.
His compatriots Cade Davis and Will Artino also played crucial roles, scoring 22 points and nine rebounds each.

“A great way to start the year with the home win; a good bounce back for the team. We lacked energy in the first half, while they came up really well. But we fought back in the third quarter, started to believe and push the ball. I think that changed the game for us,” Bell said after the match.
The Dragons started the season with a 91-90 win against Taipei Fubon Bravers on Nov 17, but lost 73-79 to Mono Vampire from Thailand in the next match. They then had wins against Macau Wolf Warriors (90-83) and Saigon Heat (90-68) before losing 78-82 to Hong Kong Eastern.
The 2015-16 season champions will next face Mono Vampires in Bangkok on Wednesday and Macau Black Bears on Jan 29.
