KL’s Dewakan, Eat and Cook, and Nadodi in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants’ 51-100 list
KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 — As a prelude to the Asia’s Best 50 Restaurants 2023, the extended list of 51 to 100 restaurants was announced today.
Three Malaysian restaurants — Dewakan, Eat and Cook and Nadodi — are on it.
Dewakan slipped from their number 50 position to number 74 this year. The restaurant which showcases local bounty through a fine dining lens was also awarded one Michelin star in the inaugural Michelin Guide for Kuala Lumpur and Penang last year.
Dewakan was also crowned the best restaurant in Malaysia last year, according to Asia’s Best 50 Restaurants.

For Eat and Cook that serves modern interpretations of classic Malaysian dishes, they jumped up to 79 from last year’s 81. It’s a boon for the two chefs — Lee Zhe Xi and Soh Yong Zhi — who picked up last year’s American Express One to Watch award.
It’s been a bit up and down for Nadodi. Previously listed as number 62, the restaurant that serves South Indian fine cuisine dropped to number 94 this year. In 2021, they entered the list for the first time at number 97.

The extended list was dominated by restaurants from China, Hong Kong and Macau with a total of 16 entries.
Japan was the next country with seven restaurants, where four are new to the list namely Hommage, The Pizza Bar on 38th, Esquisse, and Toyoma’s L’evo.
Singapore had a total of six restaurants which included new entries like Ritz Carlton Summer Pavilion, Claudine, and Nae:Um, who joined stalwarts like Lolla and Thevar. Lolla’s chef Johanna Siy was named Asia’s Best Female Chef 2023.
Thailand also had six restaurants with two new ones: This is Wana Yook at number 72 and Côte by Mauro Colagreco at number 71.
This year’s American Express One to Watch award winner, Jakarta’s August, entered the list for the first time at number 95. They are also the only restaurant from Indonesia in the extended list.
Other countries on the extended list include South Korea, India and Taiwan.
