PUTRAJAYA, March 4 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia under the new leadership should continue its initiatives and efforts to develop technology which is an important tool for the country to progress in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0), said former minister Gobind Singh Deo.
He said KKMM was an important ministry for the country to face the future.
“The country needs to prepare for the challenges ahead. We have been focusing on infrastructure development with a hope that people would benefit from the Internet,” he told reporters after attending a special gathering at the ministry here today.
Gobind hoped his successor would continue with the implementation of the RM21.6 billion National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP) as the initiative was an important mobiliser for the country to face IR4.0.
He also said among KKMM achievements during his tenure in office were the reform of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) which saw the Reuters Institute recognised RTM as the most trusted media brand in 2019, ahead of other broadcasting agencies such as Astro Awani and TV3.
“I believe Bernama is now recognised as one of the sources for accurate and valid facts. This is one of the significant achievements for all of us in KKMM,” he said.
Gobind also hoped the proposed Malaysian Media Council would materialise to serve as an ombudsman to address public complaints against the media industry as well as to foster and coordinate journalistic principles, uphold professionalism and media freedom.
