STORY: Kiteboarders took to the blue waters of Gran Canaria Sunday (December 20) for the final day of racing at the KiteFoil Open European Championships.

Strong winds and the open class kiteboards riding on foils allowed competitors to reach speeds as high as 40 knots (46mph/74kph) as they navigated the large pylons of the race course.

France's Theo De Ramecourt claimed the men's open division overall win while Briton Ellie Aldridge took the women's open class overall title.

The event was the first since it was announced by the IOC that kiteboarding will be included in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
