King Charles May Be Back to Work, But He’s Reportedly “Still Unwell”
"It is being fantastically well managed to give the impression that everything is fine."
King Charles has been keeping busy with his royal duties amid his cancer treatment, including an appearance at the Mey Highland Games in Scotland last week. Although the king has gone back to a work, a palace insider told the Daily Beast that he is "still unwell" as he continues to battle his illness.
“Charles is doing a magnificent job fighting his cancer but he is still unwell," the source said. "It is being fantastically well managed to give the impression that everything is fine, but it is noticeable to those of us who are aware of such things that the engagements are shorter and carefully scheduled; for example he sometimes arrives by helicopter at the last minute before being choppered away and presumably collapsing in an armchair at home."
The Buckingham Palace insider also added that Charles's health situation has contributed to his daughter-in-law Kate Middleton's mindset. While she appears to be on the mend amid her own cancer treatment, fans should still expect to see less of her.
“Charles’s cancer hasn’t gone away, the palace have said as much, and to be brutally honest, the once-popular notion that he will live to a similar age as his mother [94] or father [99] is now less widespread," the source continued, adding that Middleton understands what that could mean for her, her husband (and future king) Prince William, and their kids. In the meantime, the princess has decided to prioritize spending time with family.
"I think that has very much focused Kate’s mind on the fact that there may only be a few years of freedom left," the source added. "What does she want to do with them? Nurture her kids and try her best to equip them for the life ahead of them.”
One of Kate's friends also told the outlet that although the royal is still receiving chemotherapy, her treatment seems to be going well.
"It is obviously still an incredibly worrying time but all the signs are that her cancer treatment, which is ongoing, is progressing well," they said.
