Kim Ng has reportedly parted ways with Miami Marlins as the team’s general manager after both sides purportedly failed to find common ground on what the baseball operations department should look like.
Key details: Ng, 54, abruptly left the Miami Marlins on Monday, with several sources familiar with the matter telling The Athletic that the decision was due to how the former Miami Marlins general manager felt she was being stripped of her power and underappreciated within the organization.
Sources told ESPN that Ng declined the Miami Marlins’ offer to extend her contract.
What the issues are: Some of the issues the sources told The Athletic about include how the team allegedly never offered Ng a new three-year deal despite the Miami Marlins’ success in the 2023 season.

The sources also told The Athletic that the Miami Marlins are looking to hire a president of baseball operations, a move that would purportedly demote Ng and prevent her from restructuring the baseball operations in the way she envisioned.
Explaining her side: Speaking to The Athletic, Ng said she and team owner Bruce Sherman discussed last week how he wanted to “reshape the baseball operations department" moving forward. Ng noted that their meeting did not end with the two sides reaching a common ground as “it became apparent that we were not completely aligned on what that should look like.”
“I felt it best to step away,” Ng told The Athletic on Monday. “I wish to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Marlins family and its fans for my time in South Florida. This year was a great step forward for the organization."

What they are saying: In a statement, Sherman thanked Ng for her contribution to the team during her time as the Marlins’ general manager. He also noted that they will immediately begin looking for “new leadership” as the team plans to “continue to invest in the Marlins organization both on and off the field."
Making history: Ng made history when she signed on to become the Marlins’ general manager in November 2020, making her the first woman and first Asian American GM in MLB. She was also noted as the first woman to become a GM in any of the four major sports leagues in North America, notably the MLB, NFL, NBA and the NHL.
Ng was also credited as the first woman GM in MLB to lead a team into the playoffs when the Marlins secured a spot for the postseason.
