Kiernan Shipka Says She Had a 'Mental Breakdown' About Turning 25: 'Quarter-Life Crisis'

The actress said she "was freaking out" about turning 25 but then "felt great" about it on her birthday

Kiernan Shipka had a meltdown about her recent birthday.

The Red One actress turned 25 earlier this month, and while on the Nov. 18 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Shipka said she struggled to wrap her head around the milestone, calling it a "quarter-life crisis."

"I was freaking out before," she said. "I would quite literally just be going about my day and then sort of descend into some sort of mental breakdown, which happens. I'd be freaking out about a random thing and then I'd go, 'And I'm turning 25 too!' Like it would just happen, it would just come over me."

But, added Shipka, then the "day of felt great. It was just the lead up that made me freak out a little bit. But I'm happy to be 25."

Host Drew Barrymore, 49, then told Shipka she is "so wise," and added, "When we hang out I literally, I'm always, like, I trust you. You have such a good head on your shoulders. You have such a good heart. And age is something I've never asked anyone, like, how old are they? Because it doesn't tell me where they've been in life."

The Mad Men alum has appeared in several movies out this year: She's the villain in Dwayne Johnson's Christmas actioner Red One (in theaters now), co-lead of the rom-com Sweethearts (on Max Nov. 28), and part of the casts of Longlegs, Twisters and The Last Showgirl.

Shipka previously said in an interview with The Talks that "people always told me that I was wise beyond my years and things like that."

"I never really believed them at the time," she added, "but then I started to feel younger as I got older, if that makes any sense. I started to feel very professional at a young age, but then dealing with other life experiences was totally new to me. It was definitely unconventional."
