Kieran Culkin Calls “Succession” Spinoff a 'Horrible' Idea — but Admits 1 Character Might Not Be a Bad Leading Man

"Not every show can be 'Frasier,'" insisted the 2024 Golden Globe nominee, who admitted some of Roman Roy's wardrobe "fell off the truck" after the series ended

Kieran Culkin isn't entirely convinced a Succession spinoff would have much success.

The 41-year-old actor caught up with Variety's Marc Malkin during the outlet's Golden Globes 2024 official digital pre-show with Entertainment Tonight on Sunday evening, when he admitted that a follow-up series to the hit HBO drama sounded "horrible."

"I feel like I should have a joke for this but I feel like a spinoff is a horrible idea," Culkin said, adding that "just the word spinoff" doesn't appeal to him.

"Sometimes they work, yeah," he said. "I was going to say, remember Fraiser? We all loved Fraiser but not every show could be Fraiser."

Still, according to Culkin, one character might actually work with a series of his own: Greg Hirsch, played by costar Nicholas Braun.

"Cousin Greg would make a good spinoff show, I gotta be honest," Culkin admitted. "That would be kind of fun."

After Malkin suggested that Culkin could "pop in every once in a while," Culkin jokingly asked if "entrance applause" would be possible in the proposed follow-up series.

"Would that work in a show like this? That's why I would do it," he said.

A Succession sitcom may not be in the works but if he needs it, Culkin does have the wardrobe required to reprise his role of Roman Roy. The role itself earned Culkin a nod in the best performance by a male actor in a television series - drama on Sunday night, so it makes sense that he now personally owns some of what brought the character to life.

Speaking on what he's managed to take home from set since the HBO show wrapped in May 2023 after four seasons, Culkin shared that he's kept "officially nothing."

But that doesn't mean he said goodbye to his co-stars empty handed.

"But a lot of my wardrobe fell off the truck and I found it and it's just been in a pile in my closet," Culkin seemingly joked, adding that outside of the sleek black suit he wore to the Globes, "everything else I wear is Roman's."
