Kevin Hart, Obamas’ Higher Ground & Temple Hill Fast Track ‘Fatherhood’ Series For Netflix & Sony

EXCLUSIVE: Netflix and Sony are teaming to develop a series based on the 2021 film Fatherhood, in which Kevin Hart played a single dad who raises his daughter after losing his wife a day after the baby was born. After directing the film, Paul Weitz will write the series and direct it. This will be a co-production team-up between Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat, Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground, Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey’s Temple Hill and David Beaubaire’s Sunset Lane Media.

The film was a co-production between Sony and Netflix, and was well received. The expectation is Hart’s involvement will be as EP, and they will likely cast another actor to take on the lead role.

The producers of the film will also be involved, with Temple Hill’s Bowen & Godfrey Exec Producing with Sunset Lane Media’s Beaubaire, and Andrew Miano from Depth of Field, the production company run by Paul and Chris Weitz. I’m told the series will follow a fast track to production.

Higher Ground’s Vinnie Malhotra and Ada Chiaghana and Hartbeat’s Mike Stein and Tiffany Brown will oversee the series.
