President-elect William Ruto arrived for his inauguration as the fifth president of Kenya at a packed stadium in Nairobi on Tuesday, September 13, amid surging food and fuel prices and high levels of unemployment.
Ruto, who had served as deputy president of Kenya from 2013, was elected after Kenyans went to the polls on August 9. His opponent, Raila Odinga, filed a challenge against the result but the Supreme Court rejected it.
Kenya’s National Police Service said the stadium was filled by 5 am on Tuesday morning and urged members of the public to make alternative arrangements to view the proceedings to “avoid logistical challenges”. Credit: William Samoei Ruto via Storyful
