Kelly Rowland clarifies security guard clash on Cannes red carpet: 'I stood my ground'

"There were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn't get that scolding," Rowland said.

Kelly Rowland is reacting to that viral moment on the Cannes Film Festival.

It happened Tuesday as the former Destiny's Child member walked into the premiere of the French film Marcello Mio.

"The woman knows what happened, I know what happened," a visibly emotional Rowland told the AP at the amfAR Cannes Gala on Thursday in the video below. "I have a boundary and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it. And there were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn't get that scolding, or pushed off, or told to get off. I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand hers. But I stood my ground."

What happened, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is that Rowland was posing for photos and waving to fans — as one does on the red carpet — as she was rushed along by ushers. As Rowland walked up the stairs, one of the ushers both stepped on her dress and repeatedly touched the star's arm, and Rowland eventually confronted her.

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to both Rowland and reps for the festival.

Meanwhile, Page Six reported Wednesday that an insider explained the incident this way: "The people who are assigned to helping stars walk the red carpet were being aggressive and Kelly was trying to ignore it. By the time [Rowland] got to the last woman she had had it because she scolded Kelly and told her to move when she was trying to wave to fans and help the paparazzi get their shot." The insider added that Rowland, "wanted to set a clear boundary," which lines up with Rowland's comments on the matter.
