"I was just like, 'John, it's so beautiful. He would be so proud of you,'" the 'Special Forces: World's Toughest Test' star tells PEOPLE
Before Stamos's memoir If You Would Have Told Me dropped on Tuesday, Rizzo got to read an advanced copy and found the portions about her late husband especially moving.
"Stamos and I just had a really great call the other day because his book is coming out too," Rizzo, 44, told PEOPLE recently while discussing her voluntary withdrawal from the Fox's Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. "I read a ton of it already, and especially all the parts about Bob, and I called him from my car the other day. I had the PDF of it, and I was reading this last chapter that details like that final day and all that stuff, and I just lost it."
She continues, "I called him bawling, and I was just like, 'John, it's so beautiful. He would be so proud of you. This is so touching.' And then, he starts crying and crying."
Rizzo calls her emotional chat with Stamos a "beautiful exchange" and says it was "so special to pay tribute to Bob."
"It really was touching," she explains. "[It's nice] just having him to call and knowing that he'll always be there and still is. I mean, he's constantly thinking about Bob and talking about Bob and writing about Bob."
As for the rest of Saget's Full House family, the Eat Travel Rock founder knows she can count on them for support no matter what. She also appreciates how they are "keeping his memory alive so much," even more than a year after his death in January 2022.
"They're just still amazing," she says. "I know that I could call any of them at any time and they would be there for me."
Stamos, 60, told PEOPLE that his interest in writing a book was ignited after penning the emotional speech he delivered at Saget's memorial service. "The only reason why I said 'yes' was because I thought about Bob," he said.
"He never left anything on the table," he added. "He always told you how much he loved you and cared about you, proud of you. And I think we forget to do that."
