Kelly Clarkson Gets Vulnerable About Her Struggles with Dating: 'I Get So Nervous'
"It's not that I don't think I'm a prize, I just find it awkward," said Clarkson during a conversation with Tiffany Haddish on her NBC talk show
Kelly Clarkson hasn't figured out how to navigate dating just yet.
While chatting with Tiffany Haddish on a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the Grammy winner opened up about her struggles with seeking out romance after her divorce from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock was finalized in 2022.
"I get so nervous," Clarkson, 42, told the comedian. "It's awkward."
Haddish then encouraged the "Miss Independent" singer with compliments emphasizing her worth. "It’s not that I don’t think I’m a prize, I just find it awkward," said Clarkson, "and it’s the same things — ‘Where did you grow up?’"
After meeting Blackstock in 2006, the ex-pair got engaged December 2012, wed the following October and later welcomed daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander together before Clarkson filed for divorce in 2020.
"I don’t think I’ve dated a lot. I think that’s the thing," she continued. "Maybe I just haven’t done it enough."
The Girls Trip actress further attempted to shift Clarkson's perspective on dating, but the American Idol winner explained her busy schedule as a singer, talk show host and mother of two doesn't always allow her to explore the dating scene.
"I love adventure, but I’m gonna be real with you — there’s not a lot of time for adventure, ‘cause I’m a single mom, so there’s not a lot of time," she said, explaining that while the kids are in school, "I’m at work. And then when I get home, I’m just me, doing all the homework and the things."
"I have a nanny, but only for when I’m not there. I’m not one of those people who has a nanny at your house when you’re there," added Clarkson.

In a January cover story interview with PEOPLE, the "Since U Been Gone" singer shared similar thoughts on the idea of seeking out a new romantic partner.
"Dating sucks. It’s so awkward," Clarkson said at the time with a laugh. “I was single until I was, like, 30, and I forgot how really good at that I am. I told a friend [that a potential partner] would have to be an individual that brings their own life to the table without needing anything from me. It’s far more romantic to say, ‘I want you, but I don’t need anything.’ I’m really good right now, I’m having a good time."
