Would Regina George from Mean Girls go shopping in the middle of yesterday’s massive Kuala Lumpur flood? Actually, she just might – if she drove the Malaysian-made Perodua Kelisa.
Multiple video clips were posted online yesterday of onlookers cheering on the cute hatchback as the driver drove through bumper-high floodwaters in the city center. A massive flood caused by torrential downpour wreaked havoc in the city center, causing traffic jams and damaging property.
The flood also partly submerged the iconic Jamek mosque, gas stations, motorcycles, and cars, but could not seem to take down a Kelisa, or at least this particular one.
In the video clip viewed by thousands, enthusiastic onlookers could be heard saying: “Come on, just a bit more!”
Others shouted “faster” while clapping and cheering for the vehicle.

Online, those who missed out on the real-life action were just as excited.
“Best advert for a Kelisa car. Small & cute but has the Malaysia Boleh (can-do) attitude,” @Tmimi8316 wrote online.
Twitter user @Speechleyish said that the video clip embodies the KL-ite spirit: “This radiates such a powerful Kuala Lumpur energy, I love it.”
A former Kelisa owner @Missbutton vouched for the vehicle’s swimming functions.
“I used to own kelisa and trust me, I have been in this situation… most cars got stranded and I can safely pass through hahaha,” the tweet read.
