KOTA BHARU, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and the Pasir Puteh District Council (MDPP) have decided to close down temporarily the Jeram Pasu picnic area in Pasir Puteh, about 40 km from here, following the ‘water surge’ phenomenon.
Pasir Puteh JBPM station chief Azhar Elmi Mustofar said the department had conducted monitoring activities and the incident was reported to have been confirmed taking place today at 12 noon at the picnic site.
‘’Following the incident, we discussed with MDPP and decided to temporarily close the Jeram Pasu picnic area and put up sign boards and red flags.
‘’These are to warn visitors on the risk posed by a potential water surge at the picnic site,’’ he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
Since this evening, several videos viraled on the social media and WhatsApp application showing the water surge phenomenon at the picnic site.
WATER SURGE 2 (LAST) KOTA BHARU
The phenomenon occurred at the waterfall areas following the overflow of rain water which had stagnated at the top of hills and mountain following heavy rains.
Among the early signs of a water surge includes a drastic rise in river water level and occurrences of waves.
Azhar Elmi also reminded visitors to obtain current information on the weather at a particular place especially at recreational areas involving hills, mountains, beach and rapids to avoid any risk to them.
He said Kelantan JBPM would double its monitoring of the risky recreational areas especially during the monsoon season to warn visitors on the dangers that could befall them.
